GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Programs)
A program dedicated to eliminating the achievement gap and
assisting low-income
middle school and high school students aspire to, plan and
prepare for
post-secondary schooling.
GEAR UP provides five-year grants
to States and partnerships to provide services
at high-poverty middle and high
schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort
of students beginning no later
than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through
high school.
GEAR Up at Maywood Middle School is
filled with academic trips all year long and
throughout the summer. We are able
to offer an extensive tutoring program, weekly
career guest speakers and a
variety of other college preparatory resources. In
2007-2008, the GEAR UP program
will serve the 8th grade class at Maywood
Middle
School and will follow
the students through Corning High School.
